Since the temperature of the discus tank should be ~30 degrees, is it common to have a discus with ich?

All fish are subsceptable to ich, but that is a good Question. You might want to PM Wilder about that one, she know's her stuff! I would say that it isnt common, but you never know!

All fish are able to get ich, as far as I know. IMO they are more likely to get it compared to other fish, because they are so sensitive.

It all depends on the tank temperature they are in. If it is kept in temperatures of 30+ then I highly doubt any of the fish in that tank would get Ich, this is because Ich cannot live in such high temperatures.

If the tank temperature is kept low, the Discus may be under more stress, and these temperatures are fine for the Ichthyophthirius.

If you keep your tank in good condition, lots of water changes, and high temperatures with compatible tank mates, I guarantee you will never see Ich.

The reason people recommend upping the temperature when ich is present is to speed up the life cycle of it for medication to be able to affect it, is it not? The high temperature is not when kills it.

Also you can't guarantee that as you didn't mention quarantining new arrivals, that is where ich in most cases gets in. Also cross contamination from other tanks.

I would say thay are just as likely to get the infection as all others, but that they would surcumb to it quicker aslo, due to the increased temporature, and the increased speed of the infection life-cycle.

Yep they sure can, I just went through this with my discus and it happened after I added new live plants. So my question was can the plants carry it, the reply on this site was yes. So I treated the tank for it and I also raised my temp higher too. It is gone now thank good ness and I did not kill my plants in the process of it all.

Yea, i think i am going through a case now. Although there's only little amount on his side fins. No spots on his body though
