Normally I would never ever put something from a chain pet store in my established angelfish tank. But, today I wanted to treat my angels to some live brine shrimp...the ONLY place that had a stock was a chain store in my area.

SOOOO, I bought the brine shrimp and fed them to my angels. Now, and I know it's too late to be asking, but, is it possible for brine shrimp to be diseased? I mean, like with Ich or something like that? No, my brine shrimp didn't look sick, but it just crossed my mind that it would really suck if they were.

The brine shrimp were in a separate tank in the shop...away from the fish. The only thing is that there were a WHOLE lot of brine shrimp packed into this tank. You know how feeder goldfish tend to be diseased because they are so packed in their tanks... I was wondering if that would also be true for brine shrimp.

Thoughts appreciated.

Thanks.

You never mentioned live or frozen.

I take it they were live, what with your goldfish comparison.

If they were live, then yes, there is always that chance, with any live food.

The best precaution is to culture your own, though you would have to be able to house huge vats for the express purpose of getting a constant supply of reliable food.

Precautions to take when buying live foods would be to drain out the water that they were kept in, get all the salt out of hte water, and then feed the fish. :dunno:

I have tried breeding brine shrimp myself, its really easy but it stinks your whole house up like a fish cannery

I want to start some Sea Monkeys to feed to my fish ( I can just pretend I want them as an extra aquatic pet :p ).

Thanks everybody. :p

Yeah, I can assure you I'm not about to start a brine shrimp hatchery in my 1 bedroom apartment with my 2 aquariums and Lhasa Apso.

Thanks again...
