Hi guys

I'm hoping someone can identify this fish for me. Came across it completely by chance while researching something else and because it was on a Japanese site, even with Google Translate, I couldn't make heads or tails of the text.

Denison Barb, or Rose Line Shark. Gets to about 6 inches and need schools of 6 or more - four foot tanks are pretty good for them but bigger the better :)

Wills

That's a Roseline Shark although it goes by other names as well. I don't know where you're posting from but they have those at Petsmart for around $4 each. They do get a bit large though & they're very active swimmers so a long tank is best for them, probably a 6 foot tank would be ideal.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say this might not be Puntius denisonii (Redline Torpedo Barb)...

But rather the very similar species that is said to have black on its dorsal fin, again found in Indian waters, Puntius chalakkudiensis.

$4 !!!!! At the shop I go to they cost about $85 ! That's over here in Australia ... they said it's a Torpedo Barb though.

I found this pic of that fish & it's similar but the dorsal pattern isn't the same and it doesn't have the very distinct black line on it's side either:

Here's a Redline Barb aka Roseline Shark pic from the web:

Torpedo Barb, Redline Barb, Roseline Shark, etc. All the same fish :good:

Seriously, these guys are only like $4-5 dollars at Petsmart and they had quite a few available. Too bad my tanks aren't long enough. One day I'll get that Southeast Asian 6 foot long tank of my dreams & I'll have these guys along with a few Gouramis and then you'll all see who's got the best tank! :hyper:

Petsmart got them in at the same time as they added Julii Corys (which are really Threelined Corys), German Blue Rams, Bolivian Rams, and some White Skirt Tetras with dye added to them that make them glow.

Stunning fish, wish I had room for some! Not seen them in the UK though...
I'm in the uk (south Wales) my local maidenhead aquatics near Cardiff and one in Bridgend sell them. £12 each or 3 for £30. I had a group of 5 before but would of liked a couple more. They are stunning

Petsmart and Petco have them here too. They both seemed to have added a bunch of new species recently.

EDIT: Typos. I hate typos.
