We have just put a post on the Members Aquarium and Fish Photos forum with a picture of our Danio which we can't identify - tried to add it to this forum, but aren't allowed to attach pictures here.

We'd really appreciate any knowledgeable Danio lovers opinions on what variety he may be.

http://www.fishforums.net/index.php?showtopic=54748 is where you'll find him.

Thanks

For everybody who said it's a Leopard then I'm sorry
you are wrong! :p

Wishful It is a morph of danio kyathit
see my websitefor more information

Thankyou Danio I'll go to your website and have another look - I did look there originally - not hard enough it seems!

And thanks to everyone that answered.

Danio - had a look at your website - that's definately our Lucky. He's called Lucky because on his first day he leapt clear through the little holes at the back of the tank lid that are there for the wires and tubes. I don't know how long he was out of the tank for, but I was searching for him in the tank for at least 10 minutes before I found him on the carpet behind the tank.

I floated him in the net because I saw his tail flick once and twenty minutes later, he'd leapt out of the net, back into the tank. He lost his tail, but it's grown back beautifully and he's a lovely, lively and very brave little fishy.

I didn't look at the Orange link on your site, didn't seem to be likely - shows how wrong you can be! One thing though, why did you refer to him as a morph of a kyathit - what does morph mean in this context?

Thanks

Morph relates to the "colouration/patterning" according to several
sources these, two fish are identical in every respect except for one gene
that "morphs/mutates" and produces the spots rather than the stripes.

There is a debate within certain circles that is trying to decide on wether the spotted variation shold have its own scientific name but this will proberbly take years to come to some aggreement.

Thanks Nino - we think so too ;)

We've just got the Leopard Danio and Lucky two new friends - another Leopard who has really really yellow fins and quite a yellow colouration on his body, and a zebra. The four of them are having a wonderful time together.
