hi i am new to marine keeping and have recently bought a feather duster which i have just noticed has two crowns ( i think thats what they are called) coming out of one tube is this normal and does anyone know where i can get some more info on these
Feather dusters are worms that burrow into corals. The colourful part sticking out is their gills. Some species have one gill an others have two. They are often associated with porites corals and most don't survive very long in captivity. If you have lots of plankton in the tank it seems to help and you can try putting some liquid coral/ invert food around them. They will retract as soon as anything goes near them but the liquid food seems to do provide something around them that helps keep them alive for longer.
ive never heard of the burrowing into coral thing, and ive got a feather duster hitchhiker which is burrowed into some live rock (which is dead coral and can be any type of dead stony coral).
