hi i was just wondering if anyone can help, i had these fish off a friend and i'm just wondering what they are. its the 2 with the stripes
thanks for reading and helping if u can.

What you have there are salvini cichlids. They are a central american cichlid, males can grow to around 8" females smaller. They have an aggressive attitude and will kill other tankmates if there isn't enough room.

What size tank have you got them in? I see you have 2 salvini's and what appears to be a green terror, if so you're going to need a big tank. If the 2 salvini's are male then one will most likely kill the other unless it is removed. If they pair up then theres a chance they will kill the GT. The GT might also attack the intruders, so its a risky combo you got going there.

thanks for the speedy reply.. first off my tank is about 200 ltrs 47x16x16 all inches..in there i have 6 jack dempseys, 2 paradise fish a pleccy and the 2 in question they have all been together for the last 8-9 months. they were in a larger tank i think it was 6 feet in lenght, in there was 9 neon tetras and 3 angle fish also. i think they might be male and female because i'm told they are around the same age and as u can see the one is considerable larger than the other..thanks for your help it is much apretiated

Hi Fred, if you have 6 JDs, 2 Salvinis and a GT in a 200L then really you should expect some trouble, sooner rather than later,

200L is only adequate for 1 out of those 9 fish when fully grown

agreed thats a disaster in the making

oh ok thxs i've only ever had 2 oscars at separate times, so keepin these fish is quite new to me :S . it must be 5 jd's then if one is a gt

Eeek quite a mix. I'd try and contact your LFS to see if they can rehome most of them. I'd suggest only keeping 1 salvini or Jack dempsey. Alternatively another option might be to return all the cichlids and just keep the paradise fish and start a community tank.

 ok thanks very much. the last thing i want is them all killin each other :( . i think i'll be gettin some new tanks and sellin the ones i cant keep
