In my own case, the price I paid for a 6 foot tank was quite a bit better. I bought my own 6 foot tank as a used tank for about $150 20 years ago. That would equate to about £100 today. Inflation over that time would double the price but would not place it in the realm of the price you are contemplating. Your prices for a new tank strike me as excessive. You should be able to go on line and look for a price in the realm of about £200 to £250 for a nice used tank. In my own case, the tank that I am using came with 2 hang on back filters and a basic stand, it was not a simple bare tank. Even though the HOB filters have been retired and replaced by another filter, they did indeed come with those filters that I used for a couple of years. My own tank of that size holds about 120 gallons of water although mine has enough gravel substrate to reduce the water content to only 105 gallons. I have added a new home made top frame to better brace the tank and have made my own hood to match the tank. All of us need to start thinking about the people who have a need to dispose of a nice tank. I do not consider myself anything less than a compassionate fellow traveler but there are indeed people who cannot afford the tanks they have bought. If I can benefit by buying a tank from someone who has overextended themselves while saving myself some cash, I feel that I have helped us both. They have received much needed cash and I have received a bargain. It is indeed unfortunate that sellers of equipment are often doing so because the hobby has simply become too expensive for them. I am no martyr in this respect and am very self serving in some ways, but the people who sell me things while they are in such a tight spot are also serving their own needs. Both of us benefit from the transaction.
