Can An Earth Eater And A Firemouth Breed?

OK, I got some earth eaters for my tank, and one of them ( a male ) is courting my female firemouth. She's being receptive, but nothing has happened as yet.

I guess I need to know if it's likely that they will breed. If they do, has anything like this been seen before, and what was the outcome?

if they don't, will I need to end up seperating the male and female as he might get agressive if she can't breed?

I don't think it's possible.. I don't believe they are closely related

it IS possible... although unlikely. Most of the south american cichlids are interrelated due to natural selection going on in different localities.
