Is it possible for albinos to produce bronze fry? - my latest batch has albino fry and darker color fry...

I just wondered can albinos carry the bronze gene if they originally came from bronze parents further back down the line??

She has definately been with the albino male.

i think so yes... but not 100% isnt it more of a case of the alnino bronze carrying the albino gene rather than the albino carrying the bronze gene. as far as im aware they should all carry the bronze gene as that is the species and the albino is a variant..... does that make sense to you? like i said im not 100% on this and im sure if im wrong then someone else with better knowledge can correct me :good:

Thanks matt,i know what you mean :good:

I forgot the albino was a variant,so more likely the more dominant gene has come through,i dont mind,i know the albinos haven't cross bred,so it will be interesting to see how the fry grow :)

I thought maybe the tri's had spawned at the same time, but i was watching the male & female albinos 'mating' & spawning,so 100% sure they came from that albino female.

Generally these things break down as percentages.

Both the parents are bronze corys, both carry the albino gene. The likelyhood is that any batch of offspring will contain a percentage of albino to regular bronze, depending on how dominant the gene in question is.

Albinoism is caused by a recessive gene, as far as I know, so any fish that is albino will only carry the albino allele (version of gene), so 2 albinos breeding should result in only albino fry. Unless you were to the get extremely, extremely unlikely mutation of the gene back to the melanin producing version to give the fish colour.
