About two weeks ago my female convict (she's the only convict in the tank) laid eggs on the side of a rock, but of course none of the eggs were fertilized and she gave up on them about two days later. Well, she's done it a again except this time it's been three days and some of the eggs are biege in color. The only other cichlid in the tank is a jack dempsey who is likely a male. Is it possible he has somehow fertilized some the eggs the convict laid?

This morning, she's going strong defending her eggs. She seems convinced that she's got some babies on the way. Poor thing, I think it's highly unlikey, but then again "nature will find a way."

Convicts can mate with just about any cichlid out there

If the eggs are a beige color, than chances are that they're fertilized and it could've just taken them a bit to get the hang of it.

I've heard of much odder crosses, and have heard a JD x Con hybrid is possible. I've just never heard of someone actually doing it.

Well...looks like I may have some unusual fishes soon...if they can survive that is.

defo keep track of the fry  i'm sure that if you picked one or two to grow out, someone on here would adopt them.

Depending on what they turn out like, my tank situation and my funds at the time. I would be highly interested ;). I LOVE hybrids... or any form of cichlids for that matter... I need to get me some bigger tanks asap  I need more money for my 300 gallon still :(.

Got home just now and the eggs were gone...guess the female ate them. Unless another fish got to them, but given how aggressive she is, that seems unlikely. I won't be surprised if she lays more eggs in the near future...at least I hope she does...I'd like to see a dempsey/convict hybrid.
