Cameroon Armoured Shrimp Seems To Have Gone!

Hi everyone,

I picked up a Armoured Shrimp yesterday and he was last seen under some bog wood last night but today he seems to have disappeard, are these guys likely to clime out of the tank? or would he have found somewhere else to hide?

If you have big gaps in the hood and your not feeding the shrimp and/or the water stats arent great and/or it's being picked on by fish, the chances are very high it's climbed out and dried up dead somewhere.

However, they are every good at hiding so don't worry about it too much.

Just don't keep them with things like loaches or very big nippy fish, and make sure you target feed them every couple of days (powdered flake food will do).

If he has climbed out then put a low tray of water in each of the corners of the room and check it every so often and you might get lucky.

Thanks for the info, i will stick a tray down just in case, and keep an eye out in the tank. yesterday afternoon he was muchin on an algae wafer so he shouldn’t be hungry and theres nil ammonia and nitrite and none of the fish are nippy so i hope hes still in there.

They are very good at hiding for something so big.

Mine was really shy when I first got him and I rarely saw him in the first few months of having him. I see it all the time now it settled in.

If you don't find a corpse I wouldn't worry too much, it will turn up again and surprise you.

its all good, it turns out hes dug a hole under the bog wood and now come out at feeding time and pokes me gourami's when they try nickin his algae tablets, does any one know there fully grown size?
