Calling all Eheim experts: "Spezialfett"?

Just received my new Eheim 2026. Very impressed by the quality of construction compared to my outgoing Fluval 104.

I've constructed it according to the instructions (won't actually get it up and running until the weekend) but I'm left, in true DIY fashion, with a small white plastic packet of "Spezialfett".

According to Babelfish this translates as "special grease" - but where on earth for?

There is absolutely no mention of it in the instructions. Anyone any ideas?

Its a silicon grease for the optimal care of the "O" ring
I.E. it keeps the ring from drying out and thus prevents
cracking and failure.

Aha, excellent. The O rings are one of the things that finally let my Fluval down

Should I apply some now while it's dry or after a few months/years?
