Calicos fins...

So I just got home from work not to long ago. I went to check on my beloved Calico and he has a hole in his tail! Also his front ventals (I think thats what there called) are not nice and long anymore. There clumped up.
Could he be unhappy because of the filter? Because theres nothing else in his tank that could of caused that...
Any help would be great

Ok I have Maracyn 2 so I will use that but should I put him in a tank without a filter?

As long as you do daily water changes adding the correct amount of med back to water removed,, good luck.

But how would he of gotten this hole?

You can get holes in them with finrot i will try and find you an article.

Fins holes, split, frayed or falling off. Fin & Tail rot Neosulfex, Ampicillex, Mela-Fix, Tetracycline Remove objects in bowl that could tear fins

His water is changed once a week 50% and every two weeks his tank gets a 100% change including scrubbing the gravel and changing the filter.
I think the filter may be whats bothering him... I am going to move him to a 1 gallon tank without a filter and add the meds. I will than put Splash (whos in the 1 gallon) into Calicos 2.5 gallon tank.

Definitely.

I have a boy with a mysterious hole in his fin, and he is in a filtered tank that stays very clean. It was gone very quickly with a little salt in the whole tank (his partner benefitted too!) and water changes more often.

I also have two boys who somehow got around the divider and fought. One had basically shredded fins a few weeks ago. He is coming along quite nicely, again with just a little salt and extra clean water He should be all healed up very soon.

I only use medication when it is a dire situation.
