It seems that Chinese Algae Eaters, Siamese Algae Eaters, and other similar species are often mislabeled. I just found a website that gives descriptions and sketches of each, as well as a comparison chart. It makes it at least sound fairly easy to tell a true SAE from similar-looking species.

Someone posted me that exact same link when I was looking for true siamese flying foxes to eat my hair algae. It was very helpful and enabled me to get the right fish. So many fish shops these days stock different varieties of these fish under the wrong names. Great post Lizard.
