Caecilian Proofing The Aquarium

What is the best way to do this? I am hoping to add one of my caecilians to my 55gal tank sometime this weekend. The tank only has one hole on the back where the filter hoses go in. It also has a piece of wood that is only a few inches from the doors on the top of the tank and I'm worried that he might be able to push the hood door open. Any Ideas?

Any other Ideas on the best way to fill in the hole around the filter hoses?

Get a piece of masking tape, and cut a slit 3/4 down it, then split it around the pipe...
...If that makes any sence at all
