Hi,

Am I being remarkably stupid or am I correct in saying that the gaps either side of the back panel in the Fluval 600 base are not wide enough to allow a plug to pass through?

I could cut the moulded plugs off my lights and feed the wire through before attaching a new plug, but then that's a pain in almost every respect - short and long term.

I thought about feeding a an extension lead through to the outside of the cabinet but that too has drawbacks. Firstly the extension lead is not easily accomodated on the outside of the cabinet. Secondly, my young daughter will almost certainly find it...

Has anyone else encountered this problem and discovered a neat solution? Also, do others normally mount the light starters inside cabinets? Seems the best thing to do, other than the possible heat issue.

Cheers

Hmm, i have a fluval 1000 cabinet, and it has a two thin MDF pannels with semicurcular corners cut offs and it fits into the groves in the cabinet. If this is the same as yours then a plug does fit, try turnint it round so the pins of the plugs are facing the curved part of the MDF.

They do fit, just try twisting them around abit.

Mine's different. Simpy two slots either side of the back panel (which is fixed). I can't believe they sell such a cabinet.

Thanks for the suggestion in any case.

Well you can buy a holesaw set from B&Q. Make sure you get a decent one, the cheap ones are absolutly lethal, they fly off and cut your fingers off.

Use the size which is just big enough for the plug to fit through, as a big hole could weaken the structure.

Drill a big hole with a big power drill and you can use that hole instead....

Having a powerbar behind the tank wouldnt be so good, as water from the tank could leak right onto the power strip....
