Hello

What are peoples views on buying fish online? How does it all actually work? What the fish contained in? Is it good?

For instance I can't find any amano shrimp or red cherry shrimp near me, so i'm thinking about buying some online. I'll keep a look out though.

Never done it myself and personally I don’t think I would. If you do thou, make sure you chose a company who use a currier who specialise in transporting live fish, you don’t want them sending it by parcel force!

Some shops also use heat packs to keep the fish warm during transit, just another thing to look out for.

I have used Trimar with great success and also KGBettas - and it's worked very well. I can also recommend Wholesale Tropicals (the have a large number or really large amano shrimp in at the moment which is actually quite unusual - the size that is).

I have also on three occasion sent fish – and they have all arrived alive – healthy and kicking (or swimming) – via Royal Mail even.

So yes I will buy fish online quite happily – BUT shrimp is slightly different and you shouldn’t be too surprised if you lose 10 – 20% via postage.

Hey thanks everyone

Bloo do you have any links to there websites?

Thanks

Nathan

Wholesale Tropicals - they don't have a stocklist or a proper website as such. But they are PKF's no. 2 voted top shop in the country.

Trimar. KG Bettas only do bettas - no shrimp.

Uhm didn't I just say that Wholesale Tropicals have a whole truckful of really nice large shrimp ? -_-

And Trimar should also stock them - but I wouldn't know what size they are.

But....How does Wholesale Tropicals work then? Sorry i got completely confused there :S

Trimar is looking good.

Thanks

thing that would concern me about buying online is you cant actually see the fish you are buying and therefore cant check its condition, if it is eating properly etc etc etc

You're absolutely right - and I wouldn't buy from just anyone. But these are really top shops with a very high reputation. Trimar as far as I remember is the no.1 voted for shipping fish.

No worries - You call them :) tell them what you want and pay for it over the phone. I suggest not calling over lunch time - when they are very busy. I go in there once a week (sometimes more! :look: ) so know the stocking and quality very well there.
