buying bettas

since i joined this site, i have learned that there are many different types of bettas. now, knowing that there is something other than just the veiltails out there, i want one. i guess a brilliantly colored veiltail would be ok, but all the ones i have ever seen are blueish/redish/purplish combination.

my question is, where do all the betta people here get their bettas? i know a lot are bought from the internet but isn't that a bit pricey? i'm dieing to find a LFS that has something other than veiltail. even just a female would be nice.

you should check out the internet and search out a local betta association. i know california has one, through them you can get hooked up with local breeders and find something special perhaps.

The internet, definitely. You might also want to try swap meets.

I got my first crown tail and my first (and only) plakat from the internet... I asked one of my LFS owners if she could get some crown tails ordered in, and that's where my other CTs have come from. As for the rest... my females and VTs mostly came from Wal-Mart
It pays off to go there every single week when they get their fish shipments, I guess/
