Here's a video of my crazy fish that i got several weeks ago. It's temporarily living in my 10g tank as a quarantine tank. They are quite rare so i was lucky to get one. Enjoy the video!

Butis butis is one of the more interesting brackish to marine fish in the hobby. It's a shame they're so widely sold as freshwater fish -- they don't do well under such conditions indefinitely.

I do hope those feeder fish were home-bred! Store-bought feeders are parasite bombs.

i know they r brackish water fish, but i also heard they can survive pretty well in fresh too... is there any major consequence to keeping it in fresh?

Yes, they die prematurely!

As with most brackish water fish they're able to spend months in freshwater aquaria without problems, especially when young. But as they get older they "expect" more brackish water conditions. Most noticeably, their hardiness is less in freshwater, e.g., to nitrate levels. They don't need *very* brackish conditions -- SG 1.003 at 25 C is ample -- and as such can be kept with sailfin mollies, hardy rainbowfish, glassfish, knight gobies, etc., without problems.
