Bumblebee Catfish...

I've heard that there are two different kinds of Bumblebee cats... how do you tell the difference between them?

There are actualy several different kinds of catfish sold under that name but the two main ones are batrochoglanis raninus and pseudomystus siamensis.

There was a related thread started earlier so here's a link to that: http/www.fishforums.net/index.php?showtopic=119786 Fella has posted some pics of his fish and I posted links to a site with pics of 3 different species. If you search planet catfish further, you'll find some more species with similar markings and those are also sometimes available under the 'bumblebee' name. eg: http/www.planetcatfish.com/catelog/bagridae/G_171.PHP
Look through here and here for more.
Note, also, that on certain sites or books you'll find the same fish listed under different scientific names - that's just cause the genus has been switched on several species so they have quite a few synonyms.

The most obvious way(s) to tell the fish apart are by their fin shape (particularly the tail), barbel length and their colors and markings. If you have pics to compare with, it's relatively simple and, realy, the more important part of identifying them is seeing whether they are of the aggressive, slightly larger type or the smaller, more peaceful one so you can ensure they have the right tankmates and that you can cater for their needs. If you ever are in need of identification and can't find anything similar yourself, you can always just post a pic here and someone should be able to work it out for you
