I have a Top Fin AquaScene 2 Aquarium with a lighted hood. It has a really cheap bulb in it (it came with the aquarium) and I'm unsure if they make a lower wattage bulb to fit it. I have tried calling customer service, but they were of no help to me. This is my first attempt at raising tropical fish and I have lost one already due to this issue. Can someone help me?

How many gallons is the tank and what is the wattage of the bulb?

If it's just a screw in bulb you can get those at most fish stores in a wide range of wattage. Just take your bulb with you to assure the fit.

Do you also have a heater in your tank? Is it set too high? What kind of fish do you have? Depending on your fish the temperature range could be from the high 60's to low 80's.

Good luck.

you can drill a couple of holes in the hood to allow excess heat out.

just as an FYI, this topic was also raised in the beginners section, see that post for further details. she has now returned the guppies and gone back to keeping bettas.
