Building my own tank

How hard would this be to do? I know theres a glass place around here that cuts the panels out to your specifications. It would be alot cheaper than buying a manufactured one. My next tank is gonna be pretty big, so Im not sure if I want to do it myself for fear of it not being able to handle all the pressure and breaking apart. Thats why I may have the custom tank shop here make me one.

The dimensions will be

48" wide
30" tall
18" deep

Its going to be rectangular. Im not sure yet if I want to make it a flat-back hex to save space or not. How many gallons would that hold with those dimensions?

Has a lot of info, the general concencus was that it is not much cheaper and its a lot of work. But if you can get the glass at a good price it may be worth it

my large tank was hand made by us! took forever but worth it! so long ago i cant remember how how long

fishrooms.com has a tank calculator that will not only tell you how many gallons it will hold but the gph required for filtration, how many inches of adult fish, total wattage of heaters and so forth.

thought of building my own but am too lazy. if you do do (?) keep us posted.
