So i scrapped my car and thus have 2 large sheets of 18mm MDF left over so when the missus asked if i would help her make a new tortoise table i said yes.

Heres my idea i've drawn up
Scan.jpg

Basically the best sheet i have is 4' x 4', so it's easy enough to make the base and long sides of the box. Now the problems i'm thinking about are with the 'lake' bottom left corner. I thought about using expanding foam, then shaping it and then covering in fibreglass/filler mix.

Also how should i seal the whole box?

I'm going to join the pieces using wood glue (uncle is a joiner) and then screws (with pilot holes). Then i was thinking of covering the whole base of box and approx 1/2 way up sides, with resin. would this make it water tight?

Any help is mucho appreciated.

If you have any experience with tortoises even better.

There will be a heat lamp above the hill (next to lake) and a strip light above the window. this may however all be chucked in option of a UV heat lamp above the hill.

She is a HERMANN TORTOISE (Testudo Hermanni Boettgeri) called Lyla

I'M NOT HAVING A WINDOW !!!

I don't understand tbh.

You want to make a terrapin tank? Tortoise are land based....
You have lots of MDF sheet?
You want to make it water tight?
You want some sort of land structure with natural contours.
Due to direction of viewing its more of a pond then a tank.
