building a tank out of automotive glass

Has anyone ever tried this and or does anyone know if it can be done. A local automotive glass company said he could get me the glass for a 3ft x 2ft x 19in tank for around $100. I havent found any information on anyone using this type of glass and I wonder if it is possible or is it a quick way to flood the room?

IT is not too large of a tank really. So strength most likely would not be a problem.

I would be more concerned about the optical clarity. Most automotive glass is safety glass. It is two sheets of glass with some sort of structural element laminated between them. So you have six refractive surfaces versus two.

why bother? a brand new tank that size is only about $100
