building a stand

Im building a basic stand for my 20 gallon (long as it were - a juwel rekord 90). Just a simple frame construction with some light panelling on the sides.
But what sort of thickess of wood for it? I was thinking maybe 40mm square for the uprights - this sound ok? Based on four corners and one each side halfway along. Then rails along the top to join the uprights out of plank - maybe 8x60mm (so that there is a thin top and bottom if you see what i mean).
any suggestions very welcome,

I built a cabinet for my 40 gallon tank. I used 2 X 3's for the frame, and 1/4" verneer oak plywood for the skin. You can see the finished product here.
