I have a 50 gal tank with goldfishes and one surviving algae eater. The problem is that the aquarium sits in the living room, and me and my wife stay up late sometimes. This cuts into fish sleeping time. I'd like to have some simple solution to shade the fish once they are ready to go to sleep. Any pointers?

My friend made a cover for his tank for algae reasons, not for fish sleeping. But they can be applied for your problem as well. What he did was take a piece of cloth and put velcro on it. Then he stuck some of the velcro stuff onto the tank's rim, and voila, he has a tank cover. Make sure the cloth is thick enough so light doesn't get through. Hope this helps.
