Ok im building a T5 54W light bar. will using drain guttering be ok. I.E is it going to melt!!

Its ridged enough and will be water tight once ends are sealed.

Thoughts?

How are you making it "watertight" ? and WHY ?

I presume this will be above the tank ?
Provided the control gear is remote, and you are using a reflector I cant it melting !

I have an cool running electronic balast so needs no attention unless it breaks. My rena tank has a glass lip below the lid to mount the light bars on.

I am looking at taking the drainpipe (easy to drill and is molded so no holes except at each end) hiding the ballast and the main wires in side. drill a hold for the power cord. a couple for the lamp holders then using a silicone gasket on the holders and silicon over the whole for the power. using a modified end cap with lip mountings silicone the ends shut to stop water/ condensation getting in the pipe and in to the ballast. if needed i can just cut the end cap of and reseal under fault.

Please correct me if this is mad!!

My concern is the bulb being close to the plastic. will this be ok..... (im thinking so as the plasic needs to endure direct sunlight)
