I resorted to using an auto top off system that draws RO water from a seperate container/resovoir as I was finding manualy doing it was causing sg fluctuations, however currently I only add pure RO water but this means my KH drops steadily (along with a few others but KH most noticeably) I was informed the best way to maintain a constant KH while using this system was to add a buffer to the top off water, my first question is weather this is good practice as my resevoir last sapprox 10-12 days, and secondly if this is good practice what sort of measurement/amount should I use?

Sure can be. You'll have to play with it to figure out what concentration your tank wants (be careful about over-doing it) but you certainly can do this. Make sure you only add buffer (sodium bicarbonate) and NOT calcium chloride as well. Mixing the two will lead to a preciptate reaction that you don't want ;)

wanted to just check I could do this before i went ahead and done it, i'm only going to be buffering the KH in the top up water then dose the calcium in the tank as and when i need to.
