I've got up this morning to find a mass of bubbles in the corner of my smaller tank - currently housing a juvenile ancistrus, 1 male Japanese fighter & 3 mollies - 2 female 1 male.

Last time I found bubbles 4 weeks ago we also found fry, no fry this time and neither mollies have given birth they're both still rather large.

Why the bubbles??? Very confused! Looks just like soap suds???

TIA

Males fighters create bubble nests in preparation for the females, just leave the bubbles alone, they'll go on their own :good:

(Fighters making bubble nests is a good sign that they're happy :good: )

Thanks so much for that! Could he be sensing the mollies are due in this case as he doesn't have a female companion? I have been considering getting him a female to keep him entertained :)

Fighters will make nests even if he can't see any females. Don't add a female as they will fight/chase eachother and possibly kill eachother :good:
They can only be in the same tank during breeding.

Actually. A bubble nest isn't a sign of happiness, it can be an instinct. They build More bubblenests during or before storms as a storm brings rain. Which washes females into a males territory, to breed. A bubblenest indicates readiness of breeding.

All of these (and myself) disagree with you-

In general a betta is not a livebearer.
Would you two like to take this discussion to the betta splendens section?
