I have a new 40 Gallon hexagon tank that has been up for about 2 months. I have taken the water and had it tested a few times and I am always told that my water is safe. I have hard water and have been told to add a small container of Aquarium Salt to the tank. Conditioner has also been added. The filters have been changed and I still have the bubbles. I have 2 clown loahces, 2 Yo-Yo Loaches, 2 platys, 2 Angelfish and 1 plecotemus. Please help.... :(

A shot in the dark from someone who doesn't claim to know much-

1- perhaps the bubbles are just from the filter and/or airstone and are not a problem.

2- Make sure when you are changing water that you are using a bucket that is exclusively used for aquarium stuff, and furthermore was never used for any cleaning stuff. Also make sure you rinse your hands free of any soaps. -Perhaps these bubbles are from a slight amount of soap residue from one of the said reasons.

can't say I was much help. Good luck to you.

Thanks for the reply. The container that I am using is dedicated and I have not used soap in it. Also, I make sure that there is nothing on my hands or arms when going into the tank. The bubbles are more like a foam. Does anyone know if there is something that I can use to eliminate this problem. :-(

My filter makes bubbles when I put it up the right way. When I put it back, it almost overflows, but no bubbles.

I have three filters and one air stone in my tank and LOTS of bubbles. Take it as a good sign that your have a desent about of oxygen going into your water.

edit: what kinda of filter are you using?

Thanks for all of the support. I only have one filter and one airstone. I won't worry as long as my fish keep living. I got a little worried about the bubbles since I do not see them in other aquariums. Perhaps I need to change filter systems. My filter is an AquaClear that fits on the outside of the aquarium. I was told that this is a good filter system.

it'll be a film on the top of the water caused by biological debries...

Our planted tank suffers quite a bit.

you can get filter atachments that skim the film off and filter it.

its not a problem though.

Biological debris? I do not have any live plants in my tank. Where would the debris come from? Do you know the name of the device which will skim the surface? Should I purchase a different filter system?

i used to have bubbles when i first set my tank up, but they dont appear any more.
maybe you should try not adding so many chemicals to the water.

It depends what kind of bubbles....if they are the type that break constantly than it is probably OK...if the bubbles remain for longer periods of time then it may be something to be converned about....

When I had bad algae a while back I actually had green bubbles....not THAT was bad!!

EDIT....I also find that depending on what water conditioned I use I may get more bubbles....just a thought

Some fish make bubble nests such as Bettas but I don't know enough about your fish to know if they are nest builders.
