I have a tropical freshwater aquarium and am getting large bubbles on the top that do not burst. Also around the fish feeder at the top there is foam.
Can any one tell me if I should be worried about this and offer any suggestions?

Thanks
Robr

How old is the tank and how many fish does it contain?

Foam around the sides of the tank can be a indication of too much protein in the water,a by product of over feeding.
If the tank is newly set up then it could just be scum brought up from the gravel when you filled the tank up with water.

Hi many thanks for your prompt reply, the tank is 1 month old and now you mention it the foam occured after we syphoned the gravel.

Thanks

i would first advise AGAINST a feeding ring. they tend to make the fish fight for food, and some of the fish might get out competed.

do have proper filtration on the tank? (i like clean clean clean tanks, 8-10x/hr)

as was suggested above, it can be overfeeding.

just thought Id add what came to my head straight away when i read the thread...I was thinking more along the lines of bubble nest building fish? like bettas or gouramis? I wouldnt know - but just thought Id add my 2 cents ;) hehe
