In the absence of a female will males still build? Thought this was only durng mating.

Nope, boys will build bubble nests even if there arent any females around. My boys do it every wk!
i think its a good sign, it can mean they are happy/content unstressed or maybe even bored.

Bubble nests are instinct for males. In good living conditions, fed right, with good amount of lighting and warmth, they can build a nest at any time
