can a male bulid a bubble nest if there is not female gourami in the tank?
I was told they are all male.
I have 2 red a blue ones (not sure of their ral name)
1 blue one
1 pearl gourami

i was looking at the pictures and i have come to the conculsion that the pearl gourami is female.
So do gouramis cross breed.
Or is one of my red and blue gouramis confused?

For starters most males will not build a bubble nest unless theirs a female present, a pearl gourami is a species and is not a single raced gouami they consist of both male and females. and sorry but i dont know about cross bredding

maybe the red an blue gourami is just feeling particularly lucky!! :shifty:

i dont think they can interbreed :X

oh, and Paradise_Gourami, i think s/he realised that you can get male and female gouramis, but they thought they had a male and now it looks like a female -_-

thanks rsz i didnt think i was that silly

i was told they were all male but i was looking at pictures of gouramis and now i know that the pearl is a female (not a male)
The red and blue is still buliding his nest and keeps chasing all the other fish away.
i dont know mybe he'll just give up in the end. :dunno:

maybe one of your 'males' had been fed hormones to look like a male?
do people do that?!

i'd just leave the gourami be, doll_dagga_buzz_buzz_ziggity_zag, maybe he's just having a bit of 'fun'
