One of my clowns took to hosting my bubble coral and managed to rip half of one head out of the skeleton. I moved the bubble away from the clown hoping it would recover but now the rest of that head has now detached. It is still opening fine and the head looks healthy (no tissue damage)but is just blowing around and I'm worried about it pulling out the rest of the bubble.

What is the best thing to do? Will it reattached or form a new skeleton? Will it just die?

Not sure if I should try and stick it back to the skeleton or cut off the bit that has detached.

You can try and affix it to a small piece of live rock and see if it will adhere and become a frag. SH

just from my experience, my bubble slowly died off however it was from a slight tissue damage from a bad hermit. in your situation, i have no idea, it can go both ways.

Good luck!!!

I was thinking this but the tissue is still attached to the rest of the bubble which is still in the skeleton and I didn't want to cut through it as the tissue so far is not damaged. I was thinking of putting a net of it to keep it from blowing about but then this would cause it to close up anyway with the added risk of fish getting stuck in it.

Last thing I thought of doing was to get a 3litre drinks bottle and cutting a bit off with loads of holes in the side to put over the top and reduce the flow around it as much as possible.

I would try to get it in very low flow mine is doing really well and its in the lowest flow area of my tank :good:

Well just as an update the bubble is still doing ok. I have been feeding it a couple of times a week on a combination of daphina, mysis and marine snow (only a small amount) when I feed my sun coral and its actually looking bigger now then it did before and I think there is a new head growing on the attached side.

Its in a low flow area in the middle of the tank. The detached bit is still opening up fine with no signs of damage to it. Looking at the underside of it there does seem to be some thickening of the flesh where it would normally attached to the skeleton so I dont know if it is regrowing one or not.

Will keep updating this as things progress because when I have looked for information on this there wasn't that much out there.
