hi peeps

this might be a strange questions but i am curious...

I have a bubble wand next to my internal filter and the power from the water flow pushes the bubbles from the wand around the tank.

is this a bad thing? allot of the small fish chase the bubbles and try and eat them can this in it self cause any problems?

its always good to ask these question as you never know!!! :fun:

Yes - that would be an ordinary bubblewand which does NOT, BTW, give out O2 (oxygen) - it simply forces air (a mixture of gases - obviously :p) into the water, which, in turn, helps aerate the water by causing surface aggitation (which allows more oxygen to get in because it increases surface area) and also helps with water circulation. Yes, the main purpose of the bubbles is to increase the amount of oxygen in the water BUT they do not do so directly.

Anyway, yes, it can cause harm. If you have lots of small bubbles in your tank and the fish are constantly swallowing them, they can end up with swim bladder problems and such like. Try making the bubbles slightly larger.
