I brought a lemon spotted green pleco the other day (will try to post piccies later) and saw the shop feeding their plecos brussel sprouts of all things. Now I know this will probably sound very stupid to experienced plec keepers, but should you cook them first? :( Surely not

Hi Laura :D I dunno about sprouts :dunno: but the shop I went to (which we mustn't name by the way coz it says in the rules) said cucumber is beloved to plecos. Bob loves it!!!! Luv Muv xxx

Cucumber is annoying... it wont float and it wont sink either. When I try to feed my fish cucumber I either hold it for half an hour at the suface or half bury it in gravel to keep it down :p Otherwise it floats, gets pushed by the current, sinks, and then goes back up again - all in one large annoying cycle :D

I think you'd feed brussel sprouts raw though cooking them wouldn't hurt I'm sure... never tried it. Hmm... Anyone tried feeding boiled carrot by any chance? I was wandering about this today... I know some people feed banana - anyone tried that?

You need to cook 'em to make them sink.

Four minutes in the microwave in a mug of water should do it.

leave it to cool for at least 30 minutes before putting it in your tank as the core of the sprout becomes amazingly hot.

Cucumber & courgette (zuccini) can be fed raw or blanches (my fish prefer raw)
You can make it sink by attaching a bendy plant weight.

L200 also require protein, so you'll need to give him bloodworm or some sort of sinking carnivore pellet too.

We use JMC catfish pellets. Everyone likes those.

Frozen brussel sprouts are the way I've had the best luck with them. Just thaw in some warm water, cut in half and feed. They have quite a bit more nutrition than cucumbers will, although they stink to high heaven!
