Hi all, hope everyone is well.

I am having a brown algea problem in my aquarium - it is manifesting itself everywhere but it is most problematic on my plants because I can't clean it off. After about 3 weeks I need to clean the front glass as it is becoming visible.

A photo is here to demonstrate the issue: http://www.stever.demon.co.uk/temp/CRW_1031.jpg

Do you guys think this is brush algea?

In the tank I have 3 Otocinclus but that is it whilst algea eaters are concerned.

The tank is healthy and even the plants are doing OK but they are looking increasingly algeafied!

What do you guys think that I should do to stop this from happening - even if I need to replace my plants entirely?

Improve the lighting?
Get a Siamese Algea Eater (if I can find one)
Something else?

My tank is a 180l/4 gallon Juwel with about 16 small community fish.

I would be grateful for any ideas and suggestions.

Many thanks
Steve

It looks like a type of bba on the leaves of the plant in the picture, the brown algae problem may be caused by a lack of light, Juwel tanks dont come prepared for growing plants, the lighting that is standard in them is only about 1 watt per gallon, and thats not enough IMO, adding another tube would probably help.

Jimbooo another member here has a Rio180 he would be in a better position than me to comment, he has modified his lighting sucessfully.
