I decided to take part of the morning and browse in my lfs that has over 700 tanks. So many wonderful fish. In the Congo section, this fish caught my eye. No. I did not buy it. I have a west African Congolese tank but there is no room at the Inn. I love this guy.
It is a Congo fish, but from an environment unlike the rivers - hard water. I like Tanganyikan Cichlids, and might have them if I lived in a hardwater zone. They are fascinating.
The shop has been in business since 1967. Fantastic selection of East African cichlids. Today in their South American section they had about 10 species of Apistogramma available. I bought a batch of live brine shrimp and black worms to treat my livestock. I was so tempted to purchase fish but I just have no room.
Just walking over to a store with 700 tanks... my lfs has 700 crickets.
With a store like that, your local club must be really lively. When fish are available, people learn about them and you get an ever developing level of expertise and specialization.
No store, no surprising finds, no incentive to learn is what most of us have around us.
