I have about 8-10 brown spots on the inside glass in the tank. I got a brush and rubbed one spot off. Seems like dirt any idea what this good be. Tank has been cyled

It's algea. I get them on my 20g tank. My ottos don't seem to bother with them though, so I just scrape them off!!

low or high light can contribute to brown algea and also an excess of high organic componds ie lots of food plus phosphates =brown algea.
can you check your phosphate levels? this may be the reason.

I also have a little of this, but my Mollies eat some of it. If the Phospate is high how do you lower it?

Hi

My guess would be if you have high phosphate levels plants will do well in there, they'll absorb it :)

Failing that you could use something like Tetra EasyBalance or an equivilant which will help neutralise phosphate and nitrate levels.

Regular water changes won't go a miss, and make sure you're not over feeding.

Failing that, wait for some more replies from people who know way more than me LOL - but I think I prefer the plants idea :D
