brown stuff

i have brown stuff that is forming on the sand at the bottom of my tank what is it and what do i have to do?

It could be brown algae, and can be caused by a number of things...

- Overfeeding is a major cause
- Not enough light (otherwise it would be green)
- Not enough water changes

You can just take things out and clean them and then address whatever the cause may be.

Do you stir your sand when you clean the tank?
If you use a wine brewing syphon it has a narrow tube and you do not remove too much of the sand. When you empty the bucket of dirty tank water, do it slowly and the sand will stay in the bottom of the bucket. Save this up until you have enough to make it worth washing then return it to the tank after a thorough clean with lots of fresh water.
