brown patches are in my tank all over the place its like a thin layer of algea which easy rubs off, does anyone know what it is and how to get rid of..most of it is on the gravel but is hard to see, u can notice it more of the filter pipe and my no fishing sign and my plants
if needed i can post pictures
my tank 4ft
filter fluvel 404

fish
2 small tench
1 gungeton
1 barbal
2 rudd

all fish are small

Diatoms. They're harmless but annoying. Just scrape them off, vacuum them up with a water change and in a month or so they should be gone.

Yep sounds like brown algae which are actually diatoms that settle in low light levels or when there is not enough light. Luckly it is easy to remove.

thanks what is the best way to remove it as there also seems to be a lot on the gravel as well as other parts of the tank.....

when my fry tank for the pond gets algae on it i use one of those kitchen sponges with the green pad on one side, wipe it off or scrub on the tougher patches, and rince every few wipes!!

Yeah, just wipe or scrape it off. I have an algae sponge and a razorblade I use to remove algae. The brown stuff should come off with just a finger wipe.

noticed this problem in my own holding tank this week, green scrubby pad did the job, shibumkin in there isnt looking well, small white spots sort of like fluff on the tail going to treat the tank and pond next week, thought whitespot at first but its confined to the tail so im asuming fungal, other fish are fine

Sounds like Fungus or Fin Rot but I should think the White spots are White Spot. :)
