Found a brown knife fish today while getting gravel for the new tank. I saw what was labeled as a brown knife fish. I have heard that this is a species that only gets to 9" i also heard that it looks just like a BGK but brown and this one didnt look like it. Any thoughts to what it might be? Also do these guys need bloodworms all th etime or will they eat flake?

You'd need a more varied diet than just blood worms. You're going to have to get other foods in order to maintain a healthy diet.

Was it a brown ghost knife fish; Sternachella schotti, or a African brown knife fish; Xenomystus nigri?

The brown ghost knife fish will grow to around 8" and needs a diet of bloodworms and small pieces of meaty foods like fish, the African brown knife gets to around 12" and is a more predatory fish which needs to be fed mainly fish and other meaty foods. Neither fish is likely to take flakes or pellets though there are exceptions.
