at an lfs this weekend i saw a brown khife fish. it looked very similar to the black ghost knife fish but a chocolate brown colour with a beige/cream stripe running the length of the body instead of a white stripe on black. it also had the white band around the tail but obviously in beige/cream. the only difference i noticed is that the head/mouth seemed a bit more elongated.

ive seen the african brown knife fish in the past and im pretty sure it wasnt one of these. so out of curiosity has anyone else seen or kept one? and can anyone id it please? i know its hard without a pic but imagine a BGK in brown with cream/beige markings....

Apparently, they are similar to keep as a BGK but they don't grow as large making them much more suitable for tanks less than 100 gallons.

+1 ive Found limited info but have talked to people such as Neale from WetWebMedia about the Brown ghost knife fish, as well as i have seen them at my LFS many times. In regards to size, yes they stay smaller, i believe it was about 10-12" at MAXIMUM, but usually full grown specimens stay around 8" at the most. So a 55 gallon being a generally good size for one. In terms of everything water chemistry, and food/other keeping needs, there about the same exact as black ghost knifes.
