So I just went to a pet store that had its grand opening a week ago and saw a lable saying "Brown knifefish" for 5.99 Of course after I bring it home I realize he has a yellow stripe going down his body and he is much smaller (and narrow) compared to my others. He is around 3-4 inches where they are around 6-7 inches.

My tank is a 60 gallon so I'm pretty sure I would have the space with the info I've read, but I was wondering if someone could give me their opinion about if I should put him in my 10 gallon to grow a little (my betta is in there now but I could probably move him in nessary).. with 1-2 water changes during the week, or if you think it would be ok to put the little guy in the tank with the others.

I'm not really afraid about him being picked on but more of him not getting food.. He's just big enough for blood worms and my bigger guys suck them up so quickly I sometimes forget I even put some in!

probaby be best to keep him in the 60g. They seem to be shy, and in terms of requirments almost identical to black ghost knifes...just basically they are smaller than the black ghost knives which makes them nice candidates for this sized tank versus the black ghost knife.

what do you have in the 60 gallon?

2 Senegal Bichirs and 3 African Brown knifes.

Would he be able to find a way to get to food with them in there and everything? Since he is shy, it would be a little hard to feed him by hand like I did all my other guys when they were that size. :/

The brown ghost is a South American species, that gets to be about seven inches and isn't a social fish like your African knives. They are also relatively blind and hunt for food through smell and a weak electrical signal. Best is to use a turkey baster to aim food directly at it.

Im just a tad worried about when your african brown knifefish grow older and become weary of one another

No worries I'm going to be getting a bigger tank before that happens, plus one of them is being rehomed to a friend of mine :)

But I might be returning my brown ghost knife fish.. :( He was acting weird in the bag so I put him in the 10 gallon and he just lays on his side.. doesnt eat doesnt move.. But I know he's alive because he is breathing.. so something isnt right.

Unfortunately brown ghost are one of those fish that doesn't ship well.
