In my 10 Gal tank which has been set up for over a month I have had a continous problem with brown growth on the gravel, rocks and side of tank. Is this a type of algae? I had 6 rosy barbs in the tank for the last month. (The lfs advised to use for cycling in my 150 and I have to figure out what to do with them now). Currently I only have 3 rosy barbs in this 10 gal.

After I thought about it probably too long the light is probably on for about 15 hours a day.
My concern is that it's brown. Is there such a thing as brown algae?

Oh yes, there certainly is. :D

You'll need to reduce the amount of time you have the light on to somewhere between 10-12 hours or perhaps less.

To get rid of the current algae, you can use an algae scraper which is available from most lfs. Alternatively, you could invest in an otocinclus which will happily eat your current (and future!) algae.

Best of luck!
