at what size could one of these be considered an undesirable and ready for eviction, as i just watched one crawling behind two pieces of rubble and it was like waiting for one of those huge australian trains to go past you

I'm not sure, but I have a few that you have to watch for a over a whole minute before you finally see its bum appear round the rock!

i saw a you tube video of someone pulling out a 4 ft'er, he had to use one of those snake catching contraptions

I don't go by size so much. If they start getting a bit too visible that's when I worry, because that's when they are not being forced to stay hidden by predators and also when they are getting pretty hungry. If you never see them or only see them once in a blue moon, assuming they're not getting a bit too interested in corals/snails/etc., you can always give it a while and see if it becomes a regular event or if it's just a one-off.

You sure this wasn't a Eunicid? (Although I guess technically the term "bristlewrom" is meant to encompass them, but the hobby hasn't followed that trend)
