my sister in-law has 2 50 litre tanks and has algae problems in both, are they big enough for a brisatlenose catfish. 1st tank has 2 fantails, 2 black widows and a peppered cory. tank 2 has 2 comets, 2 albino cories and 1 white cloud.

I would say no to the Bristle, maybe consider 2-3 Otos instead? See, http://www.otocinclus.com/ for info.

By Fantails do you mean Goldfish? If so I doubt they should be in a tropical tank and will most likely eat your Otos if you buy some. Never heard of Comets, are these tropical fish?

A Comet is just a regular goldfish, the kind people used to keep in bowls.
Then you need one tank for tropical species and one for cold water species, they should not be kept together. Not sure about goldfish stocking but this involve having to get a larger tank... or taking them back to the LFS.

Definatly seperate your goldfish (comets and fantails) from your tropicals. You have too many goldfish anyway so you will need to take one, or two, back to the store. Sorry.

B.noses produce a lot of waste so I would go for Otos in the tropical tank. In the coldwater one, pass, I am not sure.

HTH a little. :)

Thanks guys, but the tanks are not mine, I was enquiring for someone else. The 2 tanks are not heated but they stay at room temperature. The goldfish seem quite happy at the moment. She has a bit of algae gowing on the glass quite often because the tanks are close to a window so I thought a BN would be a good glass cleaner. I have a BN in my tank without heating but it never drops below 20 degrees. :flex:

I would check what temps a BN need, 20 seems a bit low to me, but then living in the UK I can't even consider having a tank without a heater.
