hi
i got 2 male bnose and 2 female.
1 male is quite large (3 inches or more)
both females r over similar size (2.5 and about 2)
i also have another male about 2.5 inches
i got plently of wood in there, both females are fat, but they will not spawn!!!! its starting to annoy me. I got no other fish in there because i like bnose and i want to breed them. the large male is constantly in a hollow log i think hes making a nest, but he has been doing this for days, even weeks.
if u have ne tips could u please tell me.
regards
sam

Thought I'd put up the mail I sent you for others to see too ;)

hmm... what temp is the tank at?

I'd say try a water change - combined with a drop in temp.
25% change and temp to about 25deg.

Hopefully he's found the spot he wants to raise the fry in (ours use a 3/4" piece of PVC pipe)
He wont build a nest. he'll trap a female in a tube when they are ready and she'll lay her eggs, and leave him to it.
He'll stay with the eggs and fan water past them to stop fungus setting in. once they hatch he should keep them in the hiding place untill they are off their egg sacks and free swimming.

It might help to feed them some meaty foods (bloodworm etc) we actually feed frozen prawns everynow and again.

hopefully that'll get them going :D

I guess there's no fixed rules in spawning these guys... ;)

I do almost none of what smithrc does, and they still spawn for me. Most of my water changes are a little warmer than the tank water. (straight out of the tap using python). I feed vegetables once a week (either cucumer or zuchini) and he has found a hole under the driftwood, which I was hoping that he would. I had some terracotta pots but they never used them. I don't feed any meety food except for some shrimp pelettes in that tank. The staple food in that tank is the New Life Spectrum pelettes, but they get other flakes as well.

Looks like I am getting about one spawn per month... Now only if I can figure out a way to keep the alive!!

I have had my large male longer then the 2 females, i bought one female at the 2 weeks ago.
Its my birthday in like 2 weeks and i am getting a 48" by 24" its gonna be sweet! :D
if you know ne thing else that will help PLEASE post it.
Thanks guys

my male is constantly in a hollow log!!! its not even dirty and he keeps cleaning it. He doesnt do ne thing else cept sit in there.
Can someone please tell me what he is doing? he has been doing it for days now

May be she has spawned already and he is keeping the eggs clean? This is the typical behavior... I guess you are going to find out in about a week or so and see if you have your first spawn... ;)

Do you see him doing some fanning? You will see some fin movement...
