Hello Guys

I was wondering if anyone would have pictures of their female bristlenose who is gravid and one who is not?

I just bought a pair and want to know at what (if any) stage she is at. I think the stress alone will stop her from producing any eggs and so what are the signs of breeding as well?

Thanks

underview of a very gravid albino for u m8 hope it helps as u can imagine a female who is not will just not be fat so 2 speak lol

Thanks.

She is nowhere near as big as this! This one looked ready to pop! although having had a look at her she is bigger than I thought. What do you think?

Seeing as how I havent fed her yet I think it is more likely to be preggers!

Anyone wlse think she is preggers? and how long til she pops do you think?
Thanks Mr Bliss

quite possible she is but time on dropping is impossible 2 say she may not lay and absorb the eggs if conditions arnt 2 her liking so its just a matter of waiting and seeing :)

I have just changed my aquscape around and the male is showing signs of going broody (or what i think of it as such)

He is at present UNDER my slate cave (not in it as he is supposed to) making what appears to be a den and chasing the female all over the tank.

Is this the pre-curser to mating?

Yeah. And I've noticed bristlenoses like to make their homes under rocks and bogwood too, instead of the nice caves we furnish for them. :) You can often trigger the female's mating instincts by doing small (~10%-ish) water changes daily with cool water, so they'll think it's raining. Depends on if she's physically ready for spawning of course.

I think I may have already done it as my heater went bust afew days ago and I had to move the whole tank and did a huge water change in the process.

Also is it true that unprotected heaters can be a bad thing for bristles? I ask because the replacement I was given is the wrong shape to fit in the hole in the internal box in the tank unless I move the tank again from its recess and so is stuck to the side of the tank until I can figure out how to get it in the box!

My snails seem quite happy at the moment to climb all over it. stupid

can cause problems but very usually just make sure its standing uprite not sideways saves them trying 2 actaully lie on it so 2 speak lol :)

Im still waiting. The male seems to have set up his hiding place at one end of the tank and the female on the other. Typical.

I am also on about getting an albino long finned female to make a trio. How should I introduce her the the pair? just plonk her in and see what happens?

Also I may have to buy more than one as where I am going to be buying them from are saying that they will be quite small still so I will have to bring them on to be able to sex them.

Also how long from when they start getting fat till they release eggs? roughly?
