Hi

I've read that if there isnt a waterflow over the eggs they can die. My bristlenose is protecting eggs in a section of one of them fake roots that has no flow in what so ever.

Last time he was hidden away for 4 days and then suddenly came out and stayed out with no sign of fry. Now he has gone in again for 4 days and looks like he is protecting eggs again.

I just wondered is it possible the eggs are dying because of the lack of water flow.

hi my bristlenose have spawned and dad fanned the eggs making a constant flow of water over them ,although i do have a airstone in tank it was at the other end so didnt go near them ..and just to let you no babies survived and are now a good few weeks old dad is watching over more babies at present ..

i would put a airstone in i dont think it would do harm ,but maybe the dad wasnt experianced and left the babies early or kicked them out resulting in them getting eaten ..

mine didnt come out for a while before i noticed them ,once eggs hatched dad usually protects babies for week even 2 ,also they tend to hide well alot of mine are actually living inside my juwel filter and doing great ,they will go where the algae is ..

fingers crossed for this lot for you xxx kaz x

Thanks for your reply. I do have an airstone in the tank just was worried about the eggs being in the root where the water had no movement not even from the filter. I guess ill just have to keep my fingers crossed :good:

He still hasnt come out so thats a good sign. Just out of interest, what fish eat your fry

im on batch 3 at present all were spawned in different places 1 was also in a tree root and all fry are doing great ...dad seems to have done a great job fanning them inside the root ..

i was told to watch the blackwidow tetra and the guppy ........but i havent had any eaten or at least i havent seen any ate ..

i was wondering if maybe yours had been eaten prev ..

as soon as i saw fry i added sliced courgett and or sliced potatoe used weights to hang it off the top of tank and filter as thats where they seem to head for 1st ..change it daily though

they love it and 1st batch are 5 wks old and going strong ..

hope it helps xx kaz x
